Gears of War 4 Horde 3.0 and Details

Horde mode makes a return in Gears of War 4 and The Coalition are going out all guns blazing in waves of escalating chaotic mayhem.

If you've played before in previous Gears titles you know the low-down, you and up to four friends are pitted against ongoing waves of enemies in a fight for survival. With 50 waves to battle through and a Boss at the end of every tenth wave, only the toughest and most co-operative teams survive.

Horde 3.0 switches the gameplay up and focus on giving players more control over the combat zone. You can build fortifications and place them where you want and when you want, you can even move them at any time during gameplay. Fortifications are created using the Fabricator, this acts as the hub of your defences. It requires energy collected from fallen enemies and is used to further enhance your base.

Survival is key, but even if a team-mate dies it isn't over they'll still return at the end of the wave, but if your team works together you can now revive during a wave using the fabricator. Team-mates drop COG tags after death, collect these and revive your team-mates, but be warned each revival increase the cost of required energy.

The changes don't stop there as the new edition of Horde now features character classes, skills, and a new progression system.

The classes are Engineer, Heavy, Scout, Sniper and Solider. Each new character has their own pros and cons as well as their own set of weapons, but they can still pick and use weapons found on the battlefield. For details of each class check out below:

Engineer:

Starting Weapons: Enforcer, Gnasher, Snub
Passive Ability: Start with free Repair Tool

The role of the Engineer is to focus on fortifications – they can build more than any other class due to their discounts, make their fortifications more effective and repair fortifications faster at a lower cost.

 Heavy:

Starting Weapons: Retro Lancer, Boomshot, Boltok
Passive Ability: Start with free Boomshot

The role of the Heavy is all about dealing big damage to enemies, through the use of more powerful explosive weaponry, Heavy weaponry, or Turrets.

Scout:

The role of the Scout is to grab Energy mid-fight from across the battlefield, capitalizing on its passive bonus of Double Energy when picked up during combat to get resources back to the Fabricator. Combat wise, the Scouts Skills focus on close quarters shotgun combat.

Sniper:

Starting Weapons: Markza Mk. 1, Longshot, Snub
Passive Ability: Start with two marksman weapons

The Sniper is all about headshots and threat identification, using its long range weaponry to weaken or kill targets before they reach the defensive line.

Soldier:

Starting Weapons: Lancer, Gnasher, Snub
Passive Ability: Start with Frag Grenades

The Soldier is the ultimate in core Gears combat, dealing consistent damage over time with a variety of abilities that make them tough to kill and hard hitters.

It's certainly looking like that The Coalition is going all out with Horde 3.0 and truly make an epic comeback. Check out the premiere trailer above for your first look at Horde 3.0 in action.

Gears of War 4 releases worldwide October 11th, 2016 for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.
