House Flipper Decimates Previous All-time Concurrent Peak Thanks to Free to Keep Weekend

House Flipper's remake is on its way, and the team has been working on trying to build up hype for the experience. With the newest playtest for House Flipper Remastered Collection taking place recently, there was something else that Frozen District had up its sleeve.

For this weekend, the team gave House Flipper away for free on Steam for everyone to enjoy. With its previous all-time historical low of £2.09, it was a surprise to see one of the simulators to popularise the genre make the jump and offer itself away for free.

The latest discount was present on the 11th of December, and it was a great opportunity to jump into the experience, but House Flipper's free-to-play weekend didn't only propel the title to a lot of players — it simply demolished.

The last time House Flipper had enjoyed the highest all-time player peak was during October 2023. At the time, Fanatical had recently sold the title as part of its Prestige Collection Build Your Own Bundle (September 2023), though the success wasn't solely based on the bundle site's sales.

Still, at the time, House Flipper had only gotten 15,910 concurrent players, and that was shortly after a free weekend that barely pushed it past the 10,000 mark. While it's nothing to scoff at, it's surprisingly low for a title that's been so famous for so many years and a staple of the genre as a whole.

However, those numbers pale in comparison to House Flipper's latest all-time peak. It's usual for titles to enjoy the highest amount of players during their first weekend of being out, as that's when most people are available to really enjoy it at the same time, and the same can similarly be said about the free weekend numbers.

On Sunday, the 5th of April, House Flipper skyrocketed from an average of a few thousand players (2,000–6,000 thanks to the December discount) to a staggering 90,000. This new record is four times higher than the previous one, and it put the game as the #8th most-played game of the day on Steam, with only a few others passing it.

This shows the strength of free-to-keep promotions, as previously, only indie titles have taken advantage of it. It begs the question, though, about how many of those will turn into DLC, sequel, and remaster buyers.
