Kickstarter of Note: The Flower of Knighthood

Flower of Knighthood, a new historical RPG based on medieval Europe, is now available for backing on Kickstarter. The developers are asking for $600,000 to make the dream a reality.

"The Flower of Knighthood is a historical MMORPG where players can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Europe's mid-fourteenth to early fifteenth centuries," developers Par Eaglance said of the game. "The game is based on a concept of maximum realism and historicalness of the gameplay."

One of the primary selling points of the game is its unique combat system, which emphasizes realism over tried video game tropes like having a defined lifebar for the player.

"As the main point of our game is realism, we have completely rejected hit points. We use an armor penetration system, involving just your weapon and the enemy’s armor. Strikes from 11 different directions and 5 block types make each battle exciting."

Par Eaglance also teamed with historical fencing champions for motion capture duties, and with Oxford University History Professor Dr. Stephen Mileson to create an authentic and engaging crafting system for the game, giving players the authentic experience of being a 15th-century blacksmith, carpenter, leatherworker, tailor, and more. Crafting materials are also unevenly distributed throughout the world, and without the option for instant fast-travel, players will be forced to trade. As a result, trade itself becomes a viable and profitable business venture for players. Since players level up by performing activities, and experience will also decrease from lack of use, it will be beneficial to focus on one or two skills that match the player's preferred playstyle.

Finally, The Flower of Knighthood is hoping to bring new meaning to the phrase "massive battles," and Par Eaglance is hoping to be able to bring entire armies of 1,000 players at a time into both PvP and PvE.

Backers of the game have 29 days to help provide the $600,000 asked for the game, with rewards ranging from collector's editions of the game, beta access, in-game items (including a specially personalized shield and coat of arms), and even an in-game statue in the game's capital.
