Lawbreakers Will Launch As a Steam Exclusive

In a panel presented at the Game Developers Conference, industry veteran Cliff Bleszinski and the team at Boss Key Productions announced that their upcoming multiplayer FPS LawBreakers, will be available exclusively on the Steam platform at launch. This is all part of a switch to what the company calls a “digital premium model”. This is a unique concept where you pay for the game and can then download and play it. Previously, the game was due to be a free to play title, but the company has since changed their mind on this model.

Bleszinski, creator of the original Gears of War, said, of the change to non-free-to-play:

“After careful consideration of how the game has been progressing, we realised free-to-play wasn’t the right fit for what we're building. Lawbreakers is a competitive game at heart and that means balance is a big priority. Using a digital premium model helps ensure an even playing field by giving fans access to every available role without barriers”

The game is an FPS which is designed around breaking the law as the name suggests. Not law of the land though, the law of physics. Gravity can be broken and bent in this intense and ever-evolving arena of bullets.

Bleszinski went on to discuss the challenge that his game faced in standing out from others in a crowded shooter market. His solution? Up the violence:

“Being constantly compared to the current slew of colourful shooters on the market made us realise we needed to stand out from the crowd. We decided to take a step back and explore how we could dial up the maturity in LawBreakers, going back to our original vision. The new look and feel embraces the innovative and vertical nature of our game elevated by violence, intensity and competition”
