Mewgenics Finishes First Weekend with Impressive Concurrent Player Peak
The Binding of Isaac creators are back with the highly anticipated Mewgenics, bringing tactical breeding and roguelite elements into turn-based battling. The title had a tumultuous development cycle that ultimately culminated in a 2026 release date in February, and players have been ecstatic about checking it out.
Its launch has been received highly positively — the Steam review sit just below the Overwhelmingly Positive threshold at 93% positive ratings with 16,720 total user reviews. Even our own Alana Dunitz gave it a 10/10, stating that the experience was worth the wait — you can learn more in her review right here.
Its Tuesday launch halted some players from being able to experience it from the get-go, and one of the most telling metrics of success on Steam comes from concurrent player peaks and sustained player peaks after the first few weeks. For Mewgenics, its first weekend success set it as one of the most-played games on Steam ever, sitting as the 170th most-played title based on all-time concurrent player peak.

Its two in-development-team competitors, The Binding of Isaac and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, sit at 1227 (12,575 all-time player peak) and 299 (70,701 all-time player peak), respectively. This places Mewgenics at a dominant position, beating out one of the most influential roguelikes in existence, with thousands of positive reviews, and essentially a staple of the genre.
Its current scoring puts it as one of the top 0.14% most-played games on Steam among hundreds of thousands of games (from Early Access to free-to-play releases and full launches), and this is just its first all-time concurrent peak. While there is no guarantee of more coming at later times, titles like HELLDIVERS 2 managed to hit new highs every so often, and even its original first-weekend burst sets Mewgenics as one of the biggest releases of 2026 so far, and likely to be unrivalled for a long time.
