New Resident Evil Project Teased, Leaked Info Suggests It's Multiplayer

Capcom have created a website for an upcoming game titled “Project Resistance”, set for an official unveiling at Tokyo Game Show in September. The “RE” in the title being coloured differently from the rest of the title leads to the assertion that this is a new instalment in Capcom’s long running survival horror franchise Resident Evil, however some new information has leaked revealing more.

The biggest piece of information comes from a reddit post, where one user noticed that putting the livestream URL into a Youtube thumbnail site produced a few images that seem to be from the reveal trailer. There’s not much to go on, but it shows four different protagonists all working together, implying that this new title is a multiplayer focussed game.

While multiplayer hasn’t always worked well with Resident Evil with titles such as Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella Corps receiving universal backlash, many optimistic fans are speculating that this could be a new entry in the Outbreak sub-series of games. Resident Evil Outbreak (and its standalone expansion Outbreak: File #2) was released in the early 2000’s for the PlayStation 2, and despite not garnering as much attention and commercial success as the mainline titles, its unique brand of multiplayer garnered somewhat of a cult following.

The “Project Resistance” teaser trailer is set to release on 9th September, with subsequent Tokyo Games Show stage presentations being scheduled from 12th September to 15th September.
