Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will soon have another opportunity to win prizes this coming weekend, as Tetris 99 plays host to a new set of tournaments. Participating players will compete to win 999 My Nintendo gold points, which can be redeemed against purchases on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
If you’re in the United States, you’ll be participating in the Tetris 99 2nd Maximus Cup. Here’s Nintendo of America’s official blurb:
The Tetris® 99 MAXIMUS CUP is back ... and players of all skill levels can join in on the fun! From April 12 at 6 a.m. PT through April 14 at 11:59 p.m. PT, just start playing the game to enter. The Tetris 99 2nd MAXIMUS CUP is different than the first one, as you don't have to win first place to score points. Even if you place high during matches, but don't win, you could still come out on top. The higher you place at the end of each match, the more points you earn, with every 100 points counting as a TETRIS MAXIMUS.
As you can see, this sophomore tournament places less of an emphasis on gaining victories and more on merely placing high in matches consistently. So if you’re forever finding yourself placing in the top ten, you’ll still be in with a chance at winning.
For European players, the Tetris 99 Grand Prix 2 is where you’ll be battling for those prizes, with the rules being exactly the same: the higher you place in each match, the more points you’ll earn and the bigger your chances of winning a prize will be.
Nintendo of Europe put out the following tweet promoting the event:
The #TETRIS99 Grand Prix 2 is on from 15:00 CEST on 12/04 until 08:59 CEST on 15/04!— Nintendo of Europe (@NintendoEurope) 9 April 2019
During the event, earn points each time you place 80th or above. With every 100 points, you'll get a chance to win 999 Gold Points, worth €9.99 in #eShop! @tetris_official pic.twitter.com/aM5xJqb9bB
