Nintendo Announces the Upcoming Sequel to Super Mario Bros. Movie and Release Date for Mar10 Day

On a post released on the 10th of March 2024, dubbed the official Mario day due to the abbreviation Mar10, happening every year on the 10th of March, @NintendoAmerica X account posted a two-post threaded message where Shigeru Miyamoto announced the upcoming release of the sequel to the highly successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Released just last year, on the 5th of April 2023, Mario's debut on the big screen was released to praises and box office successes, netting a total of 1.36 billion USD dollars whilst only having a budget of $100 million. Though critics weren't thrilled with the movie, it released to overwhelmingly positive audience scores, and many were eager to see what would come next for the Mario brothers, the Mushroom Kingdom, and Donkey Kong.

Now, with this post, we know that the sequel is definitely coming, and it works as the very first look at the movie. According to Miyamoto, this untitled sequel should be released on the 3rd of April, 2026, and it'll receive a worldwide release throughout the month.

This is Miyamoto. We are now creating a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. This film is planned for release in theaters on April 3rd, 2026 in the US and many other markets, and throughout the month of April in other territories. [1/2]
