Nintendo Financial Report Shows Worldwide Shipped Figures

Nintendo Financial Report Shows Worldwide Shipped Figures

The Nintendo financial results for the third quarter (ending March 2015) have revealed how many copies of their biggest titles have shipped worldwide.

It's led to some interesting results, showing how popular some titles are over others - though it shows shipped units and not purchased copies.

Blaming a lack of knowledge of the series in Europe, Nintendo hope that Super Smash Bros. on the 3DS will pick up again, once word-of-mouth hits. Currently, after its September and October launches, it sits at 6.19 million units.

Though less units have sold in a similar time frame to Pokémon X & Y, Nintendo feel that Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire will continue to sell strongly. With 9.35 million units shipped so far, the 10 million mark isn't too far away.

The formerly-Japan-only series Tomodachi received its first western release with Tomodachi Life, and according to this chart Nintendo released, it has had steady - if not spectacular but almost comparable to Animal Crossing: New Leaf - sales in Europe as it hit 3.96 million in global sales. In fact, over half of the 3DS consoles sold around Christmas in the region were with a copy of the title. They also mention that more units of Tomodachi Life have sold in France than in North America.

On to the Wii U, the figures are a little less impressive. Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. both shipped less than 5 million units across Japan, Europe, Australia and North America. Mario Kart 8 shipped 4.77 units, with Super Smash Bros. shipping 3.39 million units.

With more amiibo-Wii U interactivity coming soon, in the ability to play SNES and NES games, no doubt these amiibo-capable games will sell more strongly.

The final interesting thing in the report is Nintendo's comparison of initial units sold from the launches of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask HD and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, against the previous entries of the series' - The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Though data wasn't available for the North American release of the Monster Hunter titles.
