Nintendo Wifi Connection Shuts Down

Nintendo Wifi Connection Shuts Down

Following nine years of providing the online elements of games on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS the Nintendo Wifi Connection was shut off yesterday, only three months after their announcement in February, meaning an end to all online components of the games for those systems, however the online marketplaces for both consoles will remain functional for the foreseeable future. A full list of Nintendo published titles that will be affected can be found here.

Whilst this is the end of official support there are many fan communities that are working on self-hosted servers in an attempt to keep online gaming on legacy Nintendo consoles alive including Save Nintendo wifi and Nintendo Online.
