Old School RuneScape Gets a New Skill 19 Years After the Latest

New uncharted lands await players in Jagex Ltd.'s Old School RuneScape, a classic title still going strong today. A brand-new skill has been announced, as players will be able to take a new skill to the max level and spend hours of grinding to max it out.

It's been nearly 19 years since a new skill arrived in Old School RuneScape, with the latest — the Hunter skill — dating back to November of 2006. To put that into perspective, Old School RuneScape launched on Steam 12 years ago in 2013, and no new skills have been added since then.

It's an exciting time to be a RuneScape fan, as for the first time, for a brand-new generation, all sorts of players will be able to compete to get to level 99 first. This invites several new generations of Old School RuneScape lovers to partake in the race, seeing who will devote the most time to become a sailing master.

Players who get level 99 will be able to get the exclusive new Sailing Skill Cape designed by community member Gentle Tractor. The journey to reaching the max level will be a long one, so hoist the sails and strap on for a brand-new adventure.

Sailing isn't just a skill; this introduction also comes with a slew of new additions that players shouldn't miss out on. Starting in the homely port of The Pandemonium, players will learn the ropes of sailing before reaching level 30 and setting off across uncharted waters... literally!

Brand-new locations are being introduced with all sorts of monsters, puzzles, and exploration to uncover; from the Great Conch island to new NPCS, there's more to find as you max out your sailing. Set sail across the Barracuda trail and face against all-new foes like krakens, sharks, orcas, frost dragons, and gryphons... or embrace the pirate lifestyle and hunt for long-lost treasures and plunder shipwrecks.

Players' ships are also customisable, offering a slew of upgrades as they climb through the levels. Skill integrations provide players the opportunity to chop hardwood and patch up their sailboat, mixing fishing with sailing to harvest new ocean fish for cooking, and gathering coral nurseries to create powerful new potions and spells. There's plenty to discover with the new Sailing skill.
