Pax Dei Receives Free "Weekend" Promotion on Steam

One of the best types of promotion that Steam developers and publishers can run is the Free Weekend ones, where players are able to pick up a title and decide whether they want to continue their experience. While it's not as great as the demo push (one thing Valve has been working towards vigorously), it's still an opportunity to try something out without limits and decide on spending money later.

Mainframe Industries has decided to put the promotion to the test with their social sandbox MMO Pax Dei. This title gives players the opportunity to live in a sandbox medieval title to partake in a large-scale MMO.

The title began in an Early Access state throughout 2024 and 2025, with its 1.0 launch already out for 2026 with a new item awaiting the roadmap (and possibly more to come past Verse 6: Feudal Alliances). The free "weekend", in this case, actually spans the whole week, beginning on the 19th and ending on the 26th of January, which is a good change of pace from the previous two-day periods that we've seen before.

Considering it's an MMO, it's good that the title gives players ample room to decide whether they'll stick to it or bounce off, as it's a large title with a big world and plenty of social systems incorporated. Furthermore, it'll give players the opportunity to judge the experience themselves thoroughly and decide on the experience themselves.

This is especially true due to the current state of the Steam Reviews for Pax Dei, where it sits at a 54% positive rating with 3,901 reviews total. It's not a stellar score, as the team has struggled to climb out of the pits of Mixed into Mostly Positive, with plenty of the complaints being about the extra monetisation past the entry fee.

Thousands of players are already playing through Pax Dei, which means that the active community is still relatively healthy for those looking to partake in the socialisation aspects. In fact, the free weekend — at the time of writing — has not affected the overall monthly player count, which tends to sit around the 2,000 players each day.

If you're intrigued, here's are some things you should know about Pax Dei:
