Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Gets Microtransactions

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Gets Microtransactions

In a move that echoes many games at the moment, EA will be introducing microtransactions to Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare this week.

Up until now, players have played matches to earn in game currency which enables them to purchase sticker packs which contain various upgrades and cosmetic items, allowing players to customise their characters. In a blog post yesterday however, EA's Brian Lindley confirmed that players would soon be able to purchase those coins for real currency.

Starting next week, players will be given the option to purchase coins from the Sticker Shop, which allows players the ability to access new packs and character content more quickly – all the same content that can be earned through regular gameplay. Now you have the choice to play your way; you can play to get new packs and content via earned coins in the game, or you can purchase coins to get more of the packs and content you want right away.

Microtransactions have been fairly common in free-to-play games for a while now but are starting to make their way into many paid and often AAA titles. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare joins titles such as Fifa 14, Forza 5 and Gran Turismo 6 in giving players the ability to purchase better items or characters with actual money.

His skill mostly resides in talking a good game. Legend has it he once hit somebody on Call of Duty but no evidence has been found.
