The follow-up to 2017's (EU release) Puyo Puyo Tetris is almost here, titled (would you believe it) Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. In the run-up to its release on the 8th December, Sega is eager to show off the game's all-new RPG-style Skill Battle mode in addition to a suite of other new features. Check out the latest trailer above.
By choosing a 'party' of three characters, which come with their own stats and can be levelled up, Skill Battle mode lets players battle it out in a fusion of puzzler and RPG. There are also equippable item cards which boost player stats; there's some depth to these RPG systems—at least in terms of a Puyo Puyo Tetris title.
Be sure to check out Puzzle Leagues for your fix of serious Puyo Puyo Tetris competition, if that's what you're into. Casual players (like myself) might feel more at home in the Free Play modes.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 releases on consoles—meaning PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and Switch—on the 8th December. A PC release via Steam is in the works, although no firm details have yet been given.
