Regions of Ruin: Runegate Shares Story About the Creation of the Sequel

Gameclaw Studio and Raw Fury's upcoming Regions of Ruin: Runegate is the highly anticipated sequel to the debut title and franchise-starter, Regions of Ruin. Inviting players back into the world, the sequel is set to launch in just a few weeks, offering more dwarven RPG hack-and-slash elements!

In the latest dev post, Gameclaw director Steve shared some thoughts on the sequel. Titled "The Creation of Regions of Ruin: Runegate", we learn a bit more about the reason why the original Regions of Ruin was never expanded upon, why Runegate is in development, and a teaser about what players can expect in the future.

Steve mentions that Regions of Ruin, as the debut title for the studio, was more of a prototype project. However, after the booming success, he wanted to build upon it, coming across a problem that hindered any hopes for future expansions to the lore, balancing, and gameplay mechanics: the codebase.

Due to the foundations of the experience being suboptimal, Gameclaw Studio decided to discard the ideas of further additions and instead refocus on future endeavours. This led the team to a possible sequel, saying the following about a return to Regions of Ruin:

I decided that if I came back to ROR it would need to be justifiably better than the first game. We needed better graphics, better audio, better combat, better story, and an overall better experience.

The blog post elaborates a little bit with a teaser, as Runegate seeks to make the experience a bit more renewable than its predecessor. Steve mentions that the sequel would have a bit more to do past completing the game, without having to rely on procedurally generated content, and according to him, the team cracked the code.
