Resident Evil and Onimusha Songwriter Admits to Hiring Ghost Composer

According to the Japan Times, composer Mamoru Samuragochi has admitted that he has been hiring someone else to create his music since 1996. In the gaming world he is best known for contributing music to Capcom's Resident Evil and Onimusha titles.

The 50-year old claimed to hide his hearing disability while working on Resident Evil: Director's Cut, he lost his hearing entirely in 1999 just before beginning work on Onimusha: Warlords. It has been revealed that Samuragochi paid for commissions to other composers, giving them ideas to work with on the pieces but continuing to claim credit as the "sole composer".

Samuragochi's solicitor apologised on his behalf, making the following comments:

He knows he could not possibly make any excuse for what he has done. He is mentally distressed and not in a condition to properly express his own thoughts.

This news broke after Samuragochi apparently leaked the story to Japanese broadcaster NHK through his lawyer while working with them on a documentary about the 2011 tsunami.

The identity of the ghost composer(s) has not been revealed.
