Riot Games Launches Dev Update for League of Legends
One of the final League of Legends Dev Updates has dropped for the year of 2025, as Riot Games prepares to close the chapter on the first successful three-seasonal year. Starting in 2025, the team shifted the approach to instead focus on separating each year with three seasons, each with unique themes to give players the opportunity to experience more of Runeterra and their alternative dimensions (like Star Guardian).
Season 1 started with Welcome to Noxus, which then took us to Ionia for the Spirit Blossom Festival in Season 2. Finally, we're concluding things in Demacia for Season 3: The Twilight Trials, as Xin Zhao and LeBlanc have taken centre stage as the protagonists and antagonists of the experience.
This dev update doesn't touch on what we can expect for Season 3 Act 2, and it announced the final Dev Update for sometime in late November or early December to talk about the things that we can expect in the season beginning in 2026. Though the team didn't touch on Season 3 Act 2, there was a lot that was covered.
Here are the main topics:
- ARAM Mayhem
- Smurfing and the progress of banning and account-linking
- Arcane anniversary celebration
- Misc. Updates, which include searching for specific champions in emotes, trying out every character for free in the practice tool, the return of the Blue Essence Emporium (in Patch 20.23, or the 19th of November 2025), and the return of Your Shop (in Patch 20.24, or the 10th of December 2025).
Check out the trailer above, and for the topics that are linked, you can find individual news pieces talking about them.
