Rise Of The Tomb Raider to Launch on PS4 With a Wealth Of New Content

The release date for the PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider has finally been revealed as 11th October 2016. This follows a long wait, as the game launched last November on Xbox One and this January on PC. The PS4 release is titled Rise Of The Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and will arrive full of additional content.

Starting off as you may expect, Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration will include the full game as it debuted on the Xbox One last year, along with all of the DLC released for the game so far.

To sweeten the deal, the new edition will also come with an entirely new story-based chapter called 'Blood Ties'. This will allow you to explore Croft Manor, which has featured so heavily in the older Tomb Raiders. This chapter can be played like the rest of Rise of the Tomb Raider, or can be experienced through Playstation VR.

Also making use of the returning Croft Manor is 'Lara's nightmare', which will turn the luxurious home into a haunted house, in which Lara has to defend herself from zombies. This mode sounds an awful lot like Call of Duty's zombies mode, which could be very fun with Rise of the Tomb Raider's combat.

As if that wasn't enough, Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration will also debut a co-op version of the game's Endurance mode. This will see you and one buddy take on enemies, while finding fuel, food and more in order to survive.

20 Year Celebration will also feature a number of weapons, outfits and Expedition Card Packs which act as homages to the Tomb Raider series' heritage. A new card pack will allow you to play Rise of the Tomb Raider using five classic skins which have previously featured in the franchise's past. This looks to be perfectly ridiculous - pixelated Lara running around in high-quality environments should be amusing.

The final new addition for the 20 Year Celebration edition of Rise of the Tomb Raider is a new difficulty mode, titled 'Extreme Survivor'. This will be tougher than any difficulty that came before it, taking away all checkpoints and only allowing you to save if you find enough resources to start a campfire.

Continuing the fan-pleasing bombardment of announcements, Square Enix have also stated that all of the new content detailed in this article, aside from the Playstation VR functionality for 'Blood Ties', will be available as DLC for the Xbox One and PC. If you already own the season pass for either of these platforms, you'll be receiving all of this content at no additional cost when it launches alongside Rise of the Tomb Raider's PS4 debut on 11th October 2016.

Pre-ordering Rise of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration on PS4 will net you an art book which looks to explore Tomb Raider concepts from over the years. The following image gives you a more visual look at all of the new content that will arrive this October.
