Rovio Opens New Game Studio in London

With the runaway success of the Angry Birds franchise, Rovio have become one of the biggest names in gaming in a relatively short span of time. They currently have four in-house studios, three in Finland and one in Sweden. The company are branching away from their Scandinavian homeland however to open a new studio in London.

The new UK arm of the gaming giant will be focused on MMOs and will be working on new IPs, not the miffed avian titles that the company is most known for.

"Our business is profitably growing and London is the most logical place for us to found a new studio that will complement our overall global mix of internal and external developers. London is also a fantastically diverse talent magnet.” says Antti Viitanen, SVP Studios.

“We believe that the best game experiences are those that you share with other people,” adds Mark Sorrell, Head of Studio, “So we’re starting a studio to do exactly this. We look forward to bringing a diverse team together to deliver unique MMOs that are creative, inclusive and delightful.”

The company are aiming to staff their new studio over the coming couple of years. With applications for roles already open, the new location is due to start filling up soon and we should hear more about potential new games as that happens.
