Russia rates Sims 4 Adults Only

Ah Russia, land of Borscht, 142 million souls and a premier who rides bears for fun.

Now we can add to those dubious accolades the fact that it has just dropped an adults only 18+ rating on The Sims 4 after applying the controversial law 436-FZ 'On the protection of children from information harmful to their health and development,'

This law is the one passed in 2012 that caused such an uproar after seeming to criminalise the mere mention of a persons sexual orientation (although some analysts deconstructed the law in another way entirely).

Since Russia is somewhat known for rampant software piracy it's not as if this will stop minors from getting their sticky little mitts on the game anyway, it's just going to stop Maxis and EA from getting paid when they do. It's also possible that young gamers will be able to purchase the game from other countries and get it shipped to them.

This announcement come in the light of Sims games routinely get T for Teen (ages 13 and up) ratings in the US, PEGI 12 ratings in the European Union, and M (ages 15 and up) ratings in Australia. In Germany,The Sims 3 was even rated as appropriate for ages 6 and up by the country's USK rating board. The games have included the option of same-sex relationships since the series début in 2000.
