Speaking of gear, the update will also bring with it the option to change your gear between battles in Regular Battle, Ranked Battle and Splatfest Battle (Solo) without having to exit to the lobby. The level cap is also being raised to 99 from 50 with the option to reset to level one, with a star symbol next to your level, once you hit the new level cap.

There will also be a number of new maps coming as well. The first one, releasing this coming Saturday, will take players to a huge supermarket that sells all sorts of products in bulk. Dubbed MakoMart, there will be plenty of chances to get the jump on the enemy in this shop. Shellendorf Institute, a brand new stage and two returning stages, Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall, will be released soon as well. Also a new Salmon Run stage will be released soon as well, Salmonid Smokeyard, and is and interesting new map for the gamemode.

SplatUpdate 01

Finally a new mode called Clam Blitz is on the way as well. This game mode will see players collecting and banking clams dotted around the map. The trick here though is that a team will need ten clams to break the barrier that sits around your basket. Once gone, you are then free to start banking those points.

Those are most of the main takeaways and to help you get an idea of how they will all look, and play, Nintendo released a trailer which you can view above.

Splatoon 2 is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
