Square Enix Announce Final Fantasy Explorers

Square Enix Announce Final Fantasy Explorers

A new page has appeared on the Japanese developers Square Enix's website, announcing a new Final Fantasy title for the 3DS; Final Fantasy Explorers. Looking like a cross between the Crystal Chronicles and Monster Hunter franchises, Explorers brings players together to collect crystal and slay the series' famous summons with up to three friends.

The game allows players to pick between at least four of the classic Final Fantasy classes, with the Knight, Monk, Black mage and White mage shown so far. Each class will have a large variety of weapons to use, but no other mechanics have been announced as yet.

The game is set to have both local and online multiplayer modes, hopefully allowing players to adventure not just with friends in their living rooms, but with other players all over the globe. One of the biggest failures of the Crystal Chronicles franchise, which this game seems to be somewhat inspired by, was local only multiplayer, meaning you had to herd up three friends with both Nintendo DS consoles and copies of the game to play multiplayer to its fullest.

Final Fantasy Explorers does not currently have a confirmed release date, nor has it been confirmed for release outside of Japan. But with the massive success of four character class changing themed Bravely Default and the Crystal Chronicles series, we'll be holding our breaths for an announcement about a Western release.
