Star Wars 1313 Officially Cancelled

Star Wars 1313 Officially Cancelled

At least that's what we get from everything associated with the Star Wars 1313 trademark.

The main Star Wars 1313 site has a development video and some concept art, with a Facebook Group link at the bottom of the page.  If you click it, the Facebook page no longer exists.  Which is strange, as even the Lucasarts homepage is still proudly advertising the game and the latest news item - from May 2013 - talks about it.

When people were let off from the Lucasarts videogame team last year, after Disney bought the company, it was feared that this might happen to the highly anticipated game.  Although Disney quickly put a trilogy of Star Wars films into production, which blossomed into at least five films overall, they don't seem keen on making the videogames.

However, as they have recently announced that Marvel will be producing Star Wars comics in 2015, taking the licence away from Dark Horse who had been creating a rather extensive Expanded Universe since 1991, they may be planning on merging the two.  Although they will not own the rights to use the Dark Horse material, any comics that Marvel produce would be ripe for adaptation into a videogame.  This seems more likely than it would have years ago, given games like Injustice: Gods Among UsBatman Arkham Asylum/City/Origins or Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure - games based on comicbook properties rather than their film counterparts.

You can read the Trademark notice yourself over at The United States Patent and Trademark Office.
