Starcraft Being Remastered in 4K, Original Games Soon Free

Blizzard are renowned for supporting their older titles. They have released patches for some of their earliest games over the last few years in an effort to ensure that everyone can still play classic titles on their modern machines. The next title to get that treatment is Starcraft, but it’s getting an altogether more special treatment than Blizzard’s other games.
First of all, StarCraft: Brood War will be updated to version 1.18. The update will include bug fixes and improvements, including the ability to rebind keys; observer mode; modern anti-cheat measures; compatibility improvements for Windows 7, 8.1, and 10; and more. Once the update is live, StarCraft Anthology, which includes the original game and the Brood War expansion, will be free to download and play.

But that’s not the end of the matter. Later this year, the game will be re-released in glorious UHD resolution, with modern audio and graphics. There will be a few additional improvements coming to this new version as well, including new illustrations to enhance storytelling in the StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War campaign missions; advanced matchmaking; full connectivity to Blizzard’s gaming network for social features and updates; cloud saving for campaign progress, custom maps, replays, support for eight new languages , and keybind support.

StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA—its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With StarCraft: Remastered, we’re modernizing the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.”

The game will be released later in 2017, and at this stage a full date hasn’t been announced. We don’t know the price yet either, but we do know that it will be available in the summer for Mac and PC.
