Steam Releases New Store Page from Beta Branch into Full Launch

The Steam platform has historically been a bit dated, as the overall look is reminiscent of forums harkening back to the early internet era. Of course, it hasn't stopped Valve from dominating the market, being accused of being a monopoly due to its dominance in the PC field.

A new storefront was launched in the open beta beginning on the 1st of April 2026, which saw several adjustments to the home page's overall look. Its purpose was to modernise the main hub for purchasing, all the while bringing a few additions that were missing from the previous.

Now, the new store has been released live to everyone, whether they were excited about the changes or not. It's had a few controversial adjustments that players aren't exactly thrilled with, including an overbearing "Featured & Recommended" section, having to scroll a lot to reach the "Popular New Releases" (and similar) sections, and the fact that "popular" has been rebuilt to reflect the most famous titles, which has been seen as an anti-indie change.

Positives of the new storefront are that the Discovery Queue was updated to give a bite-sized look at every title without having to load all of the content of each page. Though I've been a hater of this alteration to the Discovery Queue, at least the old version is still available for those who favour it over the one that only shows trailers.

One of the best changes is the addition of "Your Personal Calendar", which appears just below the Discovery Queue. This has been out for quite some time, but it was hard to navigate to in the previous storefront — now, it's one of the main sections players will be able to see, and it focuses on the content that they might like most based on an algorithm.

Love it or hate it, the new Steam store page is here to stay.
