Steam to Stop Supporting Two Windows Versions

Steam to Stop Supporting Two Windows Versions

In a new announcement by Steam, it has been revealed that everyone's favourite one-stop shop for games will no longer be supporting both Windows 7 and Windows 8 come next year.

This change is coming into play on the 1st of January 2024, meaning that loyal users that use these operating systems will no longer see support. Considering the DRM nature of Steam, those who do not upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11 will no longer be able to access the application and — even worse — be able to launch their games.

This is due to the newest features Steam is releasing growing dependent on Google Chrome, which hasn't supported Windows 7 and Windows 8 since the release of Chrome 110, released on the 15th of January 2023. With this change, Steam will also require some security features unique to Windows 10 and above, so even launcher-side users will receive no support.
