Steam Users Encouraged to use Refund Policy in Place of Demo by Prey Creator

Australian website Ausgamers interviewed Raphael Colantonio about the upcoming release of Prey (2017), and the Co-creative Director rather controversially suggested that PC players should take advantage of Steam's two hour refund policy in lieu of a demo version. There has been a minor internet storm since it was revealed that only console players would be getting a demo of the game.

In the interview, Colantonio stated "It's just a resource assignment thing. We couldn't do a demo on both the console and on the PC, we had to choose. And besides, PC has Steam. Steam players can just return the game [prior to playing] 2 hours so it's like a demo already."

He went on to state that he was keen to avoid a repeat of the issues that plagued Dishonoured 2 at launch on the PC. Seemingly extra testing and more effort has been put into making sure that the PC version runs well, and he's stated that he is confident that the version will be good enough:

"We have always developed our games on PC, we're PC developers. The thing on PC though, sometimes it's just the wrong timing. The drivers just came out at the same time as your game, or the hardware combinations out there are so numerous that we can't test absolutely everything and sometimes that's just what it is. Bad timing, bad luck. But we've worked on it a lot. I'm not saying there won't be any problem at all, but I'm pretty confident right now."

Early indications so far suggest that the game is running well, with reports coming in through social media and other outlets that it plays mostly fine. Clearly Arkane have learnt from their experiences earlier this year and we should all benefit from that learning.
