Stop Killing Games Gets Official European Parliament Hearing in Latest Preservation Movement

The EU and UK petitions for Stop Killing Games have officially gone through, as players all around the European Union voted in favour of getting the Stop Killing Games movement to be moved to parliament for a hearing. This monumental task involved years of hard work, started originally by YouTuber Ross Scott, who runs the channel Accursed Farms.

Starting back in 2024, the ongoing, multi-year battle has seen a back-and-forth development, as players scrambled to gain signatures, even when big YouTubers at the time would do coverage to impact the potential outcome negatively. It was tumultuous as the UK petition went live, then promptly ended early due to problems with Prime Minister Sunak at the time, then later on — various months after — it came back up again in the UK, only to end its run months later successfully.

Of course, while we already know that the outcome of the UK parliament hearing didn't particularly go as planned, there was still a lot of hope as the EU continued to fight for signatures. Though the Stop Killing Games received the signatures needed for the hearing before the official end date, a push for overdrive signatures continued to ensure the success of the movement.

This was followed by the Video Games Europe leaving a statement on Stop Killing Games, which essentially outright mentioned that destroying playable copies is a strategy to get players into the latest trend. Though talks were left "open", it seems like not much resolution came from this, and the Stop Killing Games movement, eventually, announced that the required minimum of 1,000,000 signatures for a parliament hearing had passed.

Now, the official hearing has come and gone, as Ross Scott, alongside his team over at Stop Killing Games and Stop Destroying Games, have had the hearing. This touched on various topics important to videogame preservation and consumer rights, the proposal, solutions (and those that won't work), legality, and much more.

It's a pretty big moment for videogame preservation, and — as always — we stand in full support of the Stop Killing Games movement, as we understand the impact and importance the movement has. We hope that this will lead to a favourable resolution for gamers as a whole. You can check out the official hearing from the Stop Killing Games YouTube channel above.
