The Free Wastelanders Expansion Puts the "Fallout" in Fallout 76

First announced at E3 2019, the free Wastelanders expansion for Fallout 76 is almost here. On April 14th, owners of the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC will witness the land of Appalachia fill with all the staples of the Fallout franchise: quests, companions, voiced NPCs and more.

It's hard to imagine a game launching to a poorer reception than Fallout 76. By most accounts, it was a buggy, barebones and borderline broken mess that led to many gamers swearing off Bethesda as a game studio entirely. A story-based RPG making the jump to MMO was always going to be met with apprehension, but empty servers; lack of content and soul; and a series of kerfuffles regarding dodgy pre-order bonuses, post-launch subscription services and an overpriced in-game store led to the game earning a place in the 'gaming infamy hall of fame'.

With this expansion, however, Bethesda is looking to right the wrongs of Fallout 76's early years. At long last, the game will offer players a new fully-fledged main quest, voiced NPCs, companions, factions (with a reputation system to boot) and in-game choices. On top of this, new weapons, locations and armour. Get yourself a glimpse of the expansion in the new trailer above.
