The Outer Worlds’ Launch Trailer Cranks Up The Energy

Obsidian Entertainment’s brand-new IP The Outer Worlds is releasing soon, and the game now has an exciting new launch trailer to go with it, giving players a taste of its world and wacky weaponry.

The trailer manages to put the RPG elements of the game through the lense of the player character being whatever the player chooses; Hero, Villain, Colonist, Assassin - the list goes on. These choices of playstyle are accompanied by fast cuts of gameplay, set to T. Rex’s 20th Century Boy. Despite a lot of the landscapes and environments being barren wastelands, a lot of bright colours stemming from both vegetation and the various enemies and monsters gives the different locations some extra visual flair.

Considering Obsidian’s usual focus on intricately detailed writing, this trailer isn’t afraid to lean more heavily into the gunplay instead. Weaponry is largely varied and inspired, ranging from some kind of zero-gravity goo gun to a hammer that expels a cloud of fire and electricity upon being slammed to the ground. If this trailer proves anything, it’s that The Outer Wilds is going to get wild.

Obsidian Entertainment have been known in more recent years for beloved titles such as Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity, but the pedigree of the developers reaches as far back as the original Fallout titles, and other PC RPG’s such as Planescape: Torment. If The Outer Worlds is following in its predecessors footsteps, then expect a lot of decision making and unique character building.

The Outer Worlds is set to release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Epic Games Store on 25th October.
