The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to Receive a New Expansion 11 Years After Release
CD PROJEKT RED has just announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be receiving a brand-new expansion. As one of the best games of the century, it's obvious that players are excited, though it's still a shocking revelation for many, as we await more information on the sequel to follow.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launched 11 years ago, and it's still remained as one of the most-praised titles in the videogame industry since. It's the eighth most-sold game, bested only by some of the most exceptional titles to have been released ever.
The highly famous title also ended its development cycle with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine, which launched on the 30th of May 2016. The experience added over 30 new hours of content and was quoted to be the "final expansion" for the title.

Now, announced on the 27th of May 2026, players can look forward to one final foray into the game, taking on the role of Geralt before the sequel gives the protagonist role over to Cirilla. The expansion has been announced to be called The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past, and one of the only things we know about it is that it's coming in 2027.
One crucial piece of information is that the team is working with Fool's Theory for the final final expansion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This team has had two launches ever since its Steam debut in 2017: Seven: Enhanced Edition and The Thaumaturge.
One additional bit of information is that the minimum requirements for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be going up based on the launch of the upcoming expansion, which includes removing support for Windows 11 and HDDs. The processor, graphics cards, and even RAM (shudders) is going up based on the fact that the previous ones were built for mid-range computers of 2016, so a lot has changed since.

We will be learning more about Songs of the Past, probably getting a glimpse at some of the content and hopefully some narrative looks, late this summer. While it's not a long way to go, it's still exciting to know that The Witcher 3 and Geralt have one final hurrah before we move on to the sequel.
