Timed Oculus Exclusivity Confirmed for Sam & Max: This Time It’s Virtual!

HappyGiant, developer of the VR-only Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual!,  has announced that the title will launch first on Oculus platforms in June 2020, before any other VR platform. SteamVR and Viveport Infinity versions will follow later in the year, and a PlayStation VR port is expected in 2022.

The next entry in the long-running point-and-click franchise is its first in over a decade and the franchise's first ever step into VR. Despite Sam & Max's absence in recent years, HappyGiant is eager to assure players that the franchise is in reliable hands. Series creator Steve Purcell is on board alongside several ex-LucasArts names such as Peter Chan, Mike Stemmle and Mike Levine. Additionally, David Nowlin and Dave Boat, voices of the titular duo, are reprising their roles for this all-new VR adventure.

HappyGiant has released a pre-alpha gameplay video (shown above), which shows off the current state of the game's development.

Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual! releases in June for Oculus platforms. It will release later in 2021 for SteamVR and Viveport Infinity; a PlayStation VR version will be releasing in 2022.
