Total War: Arena is Shutting Down Next Year

Total War: Arena is Shutting Down Next Year

The free-to-play title Total War: Arena is shutting down on 22nd February, 2019 SEGA, Creative Assembly, and Wargaming have announced.

Posted on the games website, the news comes as a bit of a surprise. Announced back in 2013 the title has come a long way but sadly it "didn’t meet the expectations either Wargaming or Creative Assembly had for the title, and it was decided to bring development to an end."

As part of the shutdown the in-game shop is closing down and the title will no longer receive anymore patches but remain active until the above date. As a thank you to players Creative Assembly are giving away free content players on the Wargaming Game Center. A player can choose one of four pieces of content including Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition, Hannibal at the Gates (Total War: ROME II DLC), Age of Charlemagne (Total War: ATTILA DLC) or Grim and the Grave (Total War: WARHAMMER DLC).

It also seems that though Total War: Arena will be shutting down that the team have no been affected. The announcement post even states that the team will be continuing to work on the Total War franchise, so fingers crossed that no layoffs have occurred.
