Transformers: Earth Wars Announced

Developer SpaceApe Games have announced Transformers: Earth Wars, and their joining of the growing number of Transformers games for smartphones.

As usual, the press release espouses the fact that they are going to be using Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee and Starscream -- because that wasn't obvious from the fact that it's a Transformers game.

Join either the Autobots or Decepticons as they vie to either save or destroy the Earth! It will feature online battles against other players in real-time, and be a combat strategy game. Think Clash of Clans, or SpaceApe's own Samurai Siege.

Not that this is a bad thing, as it is a genre the Transformers have never appeared in. It will feature the voice talents of Frank Welker and Peter Cullen, who are well-known to Transformers fans as the voices of Megatron and Optimus Prime respectively. The dialogue is being provided by long-time Transformers comics writer Simon Furman, though the bit in the trailer borrows from 1986's The Transformers The Movie.

As with Transformers: Devastation, it is based in the Prime Wars Trilogy storyline, which extends across games, comics and animation.

Transformers: Earth Wars is due out this spring on iOS and Android.
