Upcoming MMO New World is Bricking RTX 3090 Graphics Cards

Amazon's upcoming MMORPG New World has gone live with its closed beta and though loads of players are enjoying the game, players who have their PCs equipped with an RTX 3090 graphics card are having their rigs ruined when playing this game.

New World's Subreddit indicates that launching New World when using RTX 3090 will cause it to completely fry, forcing those affected to contact manufacturers for refunds or replacements. The issue seems more prevalent with the EVGA RTX 3090 cards than other GPUs, reporting problems with overheating and dangerous power spikes.

The team behind New World hasn't officially offered advice or any fixes. Many players experiencing problems are stating the lobby is causing the issues, with crazy FPS spikes for long periods of time causing GPU temperatures to get out of hand.

If you own a RTX 3090, it is highly recommended that you don't play New World until EVGA release an official statement on the matter and confirm that the issue has been solved. Personally I do not believe GPU cores are dying, but that the VRMs or capacitors are dying in the cards that are physically popping.

An EVGA representative provided the following comment:

At the moment we are dealing with specific problems, if it is a problem really confirmed we will inform and inform you in our EVGA forums on our website.
