Variable Refresh Rate Update Coming to PlayStation 5 This Week
Sony have announced that an update enabling the long-awaited Variable Refresh Rate support for PlayStation 5 will be released globally this week. Exciting times, but what exactly is VRR?
Well, for those lucky enough to own a HDMI 2.1 VRR compatible television or monitor, Variable Refresh Rate will sync the refresh rate of a display to the PlayStation 5's output dynamically. Still confused? So am I. This essentially enhances the performance of a games visuals by reducing things such as framerate drops and screen tearing. Sounds great right?
The following PS5 games have been confirmed to receive VRR patches in the coming weeks:
- Astro's Playroom
- Call of Duty: Vanguard
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- Destiny 2
- Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
- DIRT 5
- Godfall
- Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Resident Evil Village
- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
- Tribes of Midgard
VRR can still be enabled to work with every PlayStation 5 game through the consoles system settings, but the list above will offer "the best experience with VRR once their game patches are live".
