Weyrdlets Removed Monetisation, Changing to a Paid Model!

Weyrdworks, the developer behind the former free-to-play cosy desktop pet game Weyrdlets, recently announced that they were making the game premium in response to the community's feedback. Players had voiced their like for the game but disapproval for the microtransactions... so they've been abolished.

With the Weyrdlets 2.0 update, players can expect a slew of new additions and quality-of-life improvements alongside the shift into a paid model. Those who got the game during its free-to-play state will continue to have full access without ever needing to pay.

The team had the following to say about the new update,

Our community has been incredibly supportive since launch. With Weyrdlets 2.0, we wanted to create a more player-friendly experience where everything can be earned through playing the game.

Additionally, they mentioned that “All items are now available to unlock in-game, and real-money purchases have been eliminated. This change reflects the team’s commitment to listening to the community and creating a fair, engaging experience.”

Here's everything that is arriving in the new update:

  • Weyrdlets is now a paid game, and microtransactions have been removed.
  • All the items can be earned by just playing the game.
  • Shinies and Jellystars will be easier to earn.
  • Seasonal content will no longer be available for a short duration.
  • Pets and MiniPets can be earned through progression, daily tasks, and milestones.
  • A new multiplayer mini-game has been added, Worble.
  • Photo Mode is now available.
  • Desktop Roaming Mode: pets can now wander about or snap to the bottom.
  • Chinese, Japanese, and Korean have been localised.
  • Various quality-of-life improvements, such as improved sorting.

If you'd like to check out the game, Weyrdlets is available on Steam alongside its 2.0 update!
