What's Next for The King is Watching?
The King is Watching is an upcoming roguelite kingdom builder developed by Hypnohead and published by tinyBuild. Players will have to make strategic decisions in many areas, like resource production and the army, to keep everything running smoothly. Death is fine, however, as they'll just get stronger in their next run!
After the latest Steam Next Fest's feedback, where over 240,000 people played the demo, the developer is ready to share what they learned and how that will influence the game moving forward. Here's what we learned!
Difficulty Adjustments
The surveys show that only 30% of players managed to defeat the boss, and, on the other hand, there were also high survival records. Due to this, there will be a change in the game's difficulty to make it smoother to reach the endgame, but the full release will also include Ascensions, which add extra challenges. This way, players can better choose their experience.
More... Everything!
Although the developer doesn't give a lot of background information here, it seems the community just wanted more of everything. On the Steam post, it's said the community can look forward to more buildings, mechanics, units, levels, and music tracks!
Turorials & Tooltips
It seems the community might've been a bit frustrated with resource gathering, perhaps due to misunderstanding. When the game releases, players can look forward to clearer explanations in tutorials and tooltips!
Spells and Their Power Scaling
Bladefall seemed to have been far from a fan favourite during their sessions, and spell damage needs a bit of optimisation. Due to this, the developer will be working on adding stronger spells and improving their scaling effectiveness!
Encouters
The community loved the encounters, and the developer noted this. If there aren't more of them, they'll at least build upon them, such as by adding clearer descriptions of the consequences or even adding some new long-term effects.
Progression
This is one of the areas that will receive the most attention; it's mentioned in the post that it will be expanded significantly. In the full release, players will have to complete challenges to unlock new features, and councillors will be very important — they'll only be able to choose one at a time!
Bosses & Foes
The full release will have a larger variety of enemies and bosses, with the final battle chosen randomly from a pool of level-specific bosses. Each of these will have its own hurdles to surpass, such as debuffing or even setting everything on fire!
The team is still checking out the surveys, and if you've played (or will play, as the demo is still available at the time of writing) and have some feedback, you can still take it! Other channels to offer your opinion and praise are the Steam Community Hub and the Discord server.
The King is Watching is available to wishlist right now! And as a last reminder, you can still play the demo at the time of writing.
