What's the Difference Between Orbs and Skins in League of Legends Battle Pass Rewards?
In the 2026 Season 2 Act 1: Pandemonium Battle Pass, one major change was made to the overall paid version. According to the latest Dev Update for League of Legends, players had been asking for a change so that the included Battle Pass skins could be moved to the paid shop.
Based on this change, there have been a few alterations to the rewards in the Battle Pass, since four of the total rewards were changed due to this effect (the skin and the border + icon). Now, in the place of the skins, we have an item called a Fiendish Mystery Skin, which differs from the Fiendish Frenzy Orb.
Now, the Fiendish Frenzy Orb (priced at 250 RP in the store) and the Fiendish Frenzy Skin (priced at 850 RP in the store) are more different than just in name. The former, present in all Battle Passes League of Legends has had, drops skin shards, which means that they can be disenchanted for Orange Essence or made permanent by paying a fee in Orange Essence (which isn't a purchasable currency, but rather, an earnable one).

Meanwhile, the Fiendish Frenzy Skin gives players an outright skin from a pool. This pool, if it continues past the 2026 Season 2 Act 1: Pandemonium Battle Pass, will change according to the theme of each Battle Pass, with this one being demon-oriented.
This isn't a shard, but an outright Skin Permanent, which can be unlocked for free or disenchanted for a higher rate of Orange Essence than skin shards. It's worth noting that the Skin Permanent cannot be unlocked until the champion is, so you can still disenchant it or keep it around until you buy the champion in question.
Their loot table is also different. For the Orbs, for instance, this is a chance to get a high amount of skins from the game. The Orb search in the shop lets you check the individual skins and their drop chance, with the Random Skin Shard including 1684 matches, including Legendary- and Ultimate-tier skins, and even an array of Prestige skins can be dropped (with a lower chance). That all said, Exalted skins are excluded from the list.

Meanwhile, as mentioned above, the Fiendish Frenzy Skin gives players a chance to unlock a variety of skins from a specific pool. Bringing that number down from 1684 to 55 skins (for the Fiendish Frenzy Skin item in particular).
All of this will change based on the skin pool available, which means that, by the time a new line of skins comes out and a new Battle Pass arrives, the exact number of skins available in the Orb and the acquirable mystery skins will be changed. We'll still cover every time a new Mystery Skin variation drops with the loot table for them.
