Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022: Redfall

Arkane Austin's upcoming vampire-fighting co-op FPS, Redfall, received a gameplay trailer at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022. Set on an overrun island town named Redfall, Massachusetts in the United States, the game features four playable characters facing off against an onslaught of vampires and vampire fanatics.

The trailer mentioned various locations on the island of Redfall, including a historic downtown area, a seafront district, and an old lighthouse, all of which have been taken over by vampires or cultists attempting to become vampires. The trailer began with the character Layla travelling to a church where mysterious disappearances had been occurring just at the start of this vampire apocalypse. There, she explored the area solo before facing off against several vampires in the attic, where another member of her group then saved her.

The trailer also took the time to explore each of the playable characters, including Jacob Boyer, a marksman who's taken the term "deadeye" a bit too literally; Remi de la Rosa, an engineer with a very cute robot helper; Devinder Crousley, a self-proclaimed expert cryptozoologist with a knack for hunting the inhuman; and the aforementioned Layla Ellison, who uses her telekinetic abilities to fight.

While trying to figure out why everything has happened, the four are shown exploring the island's old tourist traps, like a festival ground, which have been transformed into the vampires' hideouts. The combat here and throughout the trailer shows a mix of stealthy and more combative gameplay elements, with the characters having to switch to direct fighting after getting spotted.

In a final array of events, the trailer displayed a mysterious door that led into a strange version of the island where the land looked topsy turvy, the ability to play alone or with friends, customisable skill trees, various powers, and plenty of guns.

Redfall will take a bite out of the world in 2023 on Windows and Xbox Series X|S. Redfall will also be available on Xbox Game Pass day one of its release.
