Overkill's The Walking Dead E3 Preview

Overkill's The Walking Dead E3 Preview

A new Walking Dead game has been teased and it looks great! The game is in the works over at Overkill Software and at this year’s E3 we finally got to see a trailer. The trailer had both live-action film pieces and snippets of gameplay so it wasn’t really enough to say what the gameplay is going to be like, however the trailer certainly got me excited.

What we know about the game so far is that it will be a co-op shooter game with role-play, stealth, survival horror, and of course blowing zombie’s heads off with guns! You will be placed in a post-apocalyptic Washington and must find a way to survive the walkers.
We also have an interesting addition to the VR community which could prove to be very promising. Starbreeze was showing everyone its new headset demo in combination with The Walking Dead game and from what we’ve heard it is very promising. I personally look forward to playing a zombie survival game and seeing a walker trying to chew my legs off in VR.

The game will definitely have a close feel to the TV show because the studio is working directly with Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead’s creator. We may even see some familiar faces, but the main cast of characters will be all new. It has already been stated that they do want to stay away from including the majority of the popular characters from the AMC TV series so one can assume the familiar faces will only be quick glimpses or intertwining stories.

I was actually thrilled to hear that the devs main focus is on the replayability as I don’t think enough studios focus on playing the game more than once. I’m also hoping that this game will be better than Survival Instincts’, as that was an extremely disappointing title that seemed to just be hopping on the zombie hype-train.

Unfortunately little else has been revealed about the new zombie title, however what we have seen so far looks very promising. Overkill’s The Walking Dead is planned to release on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, however it’s still in its early stages of development.
