Wall World 2 Preview
Welcome back to the mysterious world of the Wall. Once again, you are Ben, the pilot of a spider mech called a Robospider, searching for lost artefacts and technologies while you explore the mines. Battle the Zurex, along with the other horrors waiting for you in the dark.

The story thus far tells of how no one who has searched the edge of the Wall has ever returned, except for your grandpa, who unfortunately ended up disappearing after this event as well. This prompted Ben to become an edge seeker himself, but what he found was something completely different: The Leviathan, a massive monster that was awakened in the first game, still lives, despite being “defeated”.

The developer has included a great “Previously in Wall World” feature to remind you of the events that occurred in the first game. So, whether you need a refresher or never got the chance to try the original, you’ll know exactly what’s going on here.

The game begins in the prologue, with you in your Robospider, descending the side of a cliff. Your mission is to leave the mech in your exosuit to explore the mine. You’ll need to break the rock using your plasma drill and vacuum up any resources you find while digging. These items can be used to upgrade your exosuit once you return to your mech and visit the upgrade shop.

There are plenty of upgrades to purchase, such as repulsors that increase your movement speed in the mine, plasma cutters that make your drilling more efficient, and the conscious mining item that increases the chance of a block dropping an additional resource. As you progress, there are also upgrades that increase your plasma drill range.

When you are in pilot mode while outside the exosuit, enemies may attack, so be ready to jump back in and destroy them before returning to mining. In the first game, we had a purple threat detector bar that warned you when the enemy was about to attack. Here, it simply tells you when the enemy is attacking your ship. While mining, you may also dig up Relics. As soon as you find one, take it back to the ship, as it’s probably a useful resource for your spider mech. I found a drone system that auto-targets enemies that come near the Robospider, which is incredibly helpful. Your drone system can also be upgraded, along with the exosuit you wear.

The music sounds mysterious and makes you feel like you’re on an adventure, and it’s perfect when you’re mining, never knowing what you’ll come across next. I love the pixelated visuals in Wall World 2; it feels like a clear improvement over the first game. There’s a lot of detail here, even down to the super tiny snowflakes when it’s snowing. It’s so satisfying to drill and see the little purple cracks appear as the rock breaks apart!
Wall World 2 still feels like the original game, but it brings some noticeable improvements, such as character portraits during dialogue and an enhanced dash move. You now have a global map where you can travel between areas to complete missions and explore new corners of the Wall. I can’t wait to see all the new additions to this sequel when it fully releases.

Both Wall World games have a strong Lovecraftian vibe, which I appreciate. It’s dark and mysterious, feeling almost surreal, especially when you see the domes under attack by tentacle monsters! It’s guaranteed to be a creepy and strange experience, so this is a demo you’ll definitely want to check out!
