Batman - The Telltale Series Episode 4 Review

SPOILER WARNING: If you have not played the previous episodes it is advised you do not read this review as it will include spoilers for previous episodes. You have been warned!

Last we left our caped crusader he’d been injected with the nerve toxin, sending him into a frenzy towards Cobblepot, the man who’d just stolen his company from him. Coming out of your drug induced haze you find yourself in a small cell in Gotham's local psychiatric hospital: Arkham Asylum. Unlike the Batman game bearing the Arkham Asylum name you spend very little time on the ward, with the help of a familiar face you are let go and released into the general public. A general public not all too happy to see the face of Bruce Wayne.

Batman The Telltale Series Review 2

In your down time it appears the news of you clobbering Cobblepot has gotten around. Mayor Dent has been putting in a very bad word to the local police force about you, making it very unsafe for Bruce to be out and about. Thankfully, you have a manson and the bat cowl to cry into.

Once you’ve neutralized the nerve toxin it's time for Batman to investigate Vicky Veil, shake down Harvey Dent, then make the difficult decision to confront Cobblepot at Wayne Towers or rescue Alfried from the wrath of Two Face. Either way, after you’ve either defeated Two Face or The Penguin, the game ends. Overall it’ll take you just over an hour to play through start to finish.

TellTale has added a few more game play sequences into Episode Four than there were in Three, however they haven’t added anything new. They have you looking around at things, investigating a crime scene and a single combat scene. Along with choosing from a dialogue option, it is your bog standard format for the Batman TellTale games.

Another feature TellTale has brought back for Episode Four is the frame rate drops and freezes, though I noticed it a lot more in this one.Being such a short episode, along with very obvious bad lip syncing and the continued frame rate issues, these episodes are feeling extremely rushed! It’s as if they don’t so much care about what they’re sending out, as long as they’re sending them out in a certain time frame, which is a massive shame. Given time and effort they could have developed this series to be something really interesting. As such it's in danger of looking like a cheap cash in of the Batman franchise.

Batman - The Telltale Series (Reviewed on Windows)

Game is enjoyable, outweighing the issues there may be.

Short, stuttering and nothing new in terms of mechanics. The story does continue to be interesting, but one fears they’ll rush an ending just to make it a five episode story and not give it the proper respect old Bats deserves.
