EXAMPLE: Orbital Strike Rama Skin Review

EXAMPLE: Orbital Strike Rama Skin Review

The Orbital Strike Skin for Rama was introduced in "The One that Nox" patch in October, 2014 and was included as part of The Odyssey for the Hindu Pantheon.

Coming in at 600 gems (and no favor option), Orbital Strike is on the higher end of the skin price due to the new voice pack and effects included with the skin. However, due to this skin being part of The Odyssey, $3 will be added to the prize pool for the SMITE World Championships for every purchase ($1 for every 200 gems).

This skin puts Rama into the shoes of a futuristic, Destiny-esque armour, equipped with a just-as-futuristic bow and arrow. The bow now takes on more of an appearance of a compound model, rather than his traditional long bow. His arrows have also been upgraded and take on a more 'tracker' feel with a lit-tip rather than the more traditional arrow head. It still keeps a feathered fletching to bring it home that it's still very much an arrow. It's slightly annoying, but the arrows that drop from Pick Me Up's passive have a slightly different design with a bulkier head.

Orbital Strike also comes with a custom voicepack which sounds very robotic in nature. The way that I see this skin is that it's Rama inside a suit, not a robot. Because of this, I feel that this voicepack is fairly lackluster and could be a modified version of the original, rather than a completely new one. What I would have liked to see is something a lot more 'action hero' - Rama, but if he was announcing the release of a new videogame.

New effects have been added to this skin also. These effects are Rama's original effects but made purple and have a bit of added flair to them in the shiny department. They fit the skin appropriately and are nice addition overall. The sound effects for the different moves have also had slight tweaks to make them more related to the skin itself.

As far as Rama's lore is concerned, the Orbital Strike skin has absolutely nothing to do with it. This skin is there a costume rather than a lore-accurate portray and should be seen as such. It is, however, one of the more serious costume skins and one of the visually appealing at that.

Overall, the Orbital Strike skin fits Rama very nicely and, with the recent release of Destiny, seems very appropriate at this time. This skin will only be available until January so, if you want it, you best grab it quickly! If you do choose to, you will also get a free Odyssey Chest (worth 200 gems).
