7 Free Christmas-themed DLC to Get This Holiday Season

Considering the second entry in the series released recently, this is a great time to check out if you want it by playing the 1st one but with Christmas spirit. Jokes aside, although I don't personally like or play this game, this free DLC adds a bunch of Christmas carols to keep you in the mood! There are five in total, with beloved songs like Silent Night, Holy Night, and The First Noel, and there's a nice mix of genres! 

The Escapists - Santa's Sweatshop

The Escapists has been on my list for a while — it looks like a fantastic title that I'd love to play with my wife, but I've not gotten around to it. This free DLC has you playing as an elf trying to escape Santa and the crappy work conditions of the North Pole. It adds new craftables, a merry soundtrack, achievements, and tons of Christmas-themed things like jobs, levels, and characters! 

HOT WHEELS - Christmas Pack

• Game genres: Racing, Arcade
• DLC Rating: Positive

There's something satisfying about racing through a ginormous world as a tiny little toy, and HOT WHEELS coming to videogames is one of my favourite things ever thanks to that. That being said, if you want to add a sprinkle of Christmas-ness, this DLC adds three cars to your collection: Rockin' Santa Sled, Bazoomka, and Synkro!

Glass Masquerade - Christmas Day Puzzle

• Game genres: Puzzle, Atmospheric
• DLC Rating: Very Positive

Although I hadn't heard of Glass Masquerade until I went checking for free Holiday DLC, it hasn't gone unseen, with over 4,000 reviews and a score of Overwhelmingly Positive. The DLC for this nuanced puzzle title adds a Christmas level! The mention of "mini-DLC" tells me it's quite small, but at least there's one.

Good Pizza, Great Pizza - Premium Winter Decors

• Game genres: Cozy, Cooking
• DLC Rating: N/A

This charming cooking simulator has two free Christmas DLC at the time of writing, one for 2020 and one for 2021. If you get them, you'll have new items to decorate your pizzeria with and bring the holiday spirit to your customers! Who knows, maybe there'll be a third free one coming for 2023.

Painkiller Hell & Damnation - Satan Claus DLC

• Game genres: Horror FPS, Co-op
• DLC Rating: Positive

There's something very funny about reskinning horror games to look more Christmas-y, and the folks over at The Farm 51 agree with me! Their DLC for Painkiller reworks the Train Station map with "Anti Christmas" spirit, which means the enemies are remodelled, there are new sounds, environment changes, a new achievement, and — my personal favourite — Jingle Bells will be playing... but it's "on steroids"! 

House Party - Winter Holiday Pack (NSFW)

• Game genres: Nudity, Mature
• DLC Rating: Positive

Our writer ended up being a big fan of House Party after playing it; although it isn't usually her type of game, she ended up in love with the puzzle aspect of this witty and comedic sex title. The DLC is pretty great and up to their standards — especially for something free! — as aside from the content already available, Eek! Games mentions they'll be adding more as time goes on. At the time of writing, you get: 

• (Tons of) seasonal decoration and outfits.
• Snow.
• A side quest for Frank.
• Throwable snowballs.
