Days Gone 2 May Never Happen, But if it Did I Would Want to See These Changes
I have been seeing a lot of rumours around a potential release of a sequel to Days Gone, the open-world zombie game that released on PlayStation 4. Now, while I have my doubts about this being possible (it’s often said there’s no chance of it happening), it’s something I would love to see. However, there are some changes I’d want to see that could help a potential Days Gone 2 stand above its predecessor.
The first thing that I’d want to see is more hordes, but also more ways to fight them. If you never played the original, there were large groups of what are called Freakers that would roam the map and offer a substantial challenge to fight. Well, that was the concept at least, but honestly, they never really delivered on the initial promise.

The problem was that every fight against them really narrowed down to walking backwards, throwing explosives, and shooting a lot of bullets. There really wasn’t much in the way of strategy or even dynamic experiences. This was a bit of a far cry from what we saw in Days Gone’s original trailer, which showed Deacon running through a processing plant, placing obstacles, and more. You can do that in one horde encounter, at least, but most of the time it’s really not a factor.
Ultimately, I’d want to see more hordes appear in locations where getting them out in the open simply isn’t possible, and you need to fight in much more constrained environments that require more planning. Plus, this would help to avoid the repetitive gameplay loop that blighted the horde experience in my mind.

Another positive thing could be a bit more variety in terms of locations, which actually feeds into my prior point. Throughout Days Gone, you spend most of your time out in the open, either in forests or deserts. It’s fine, but the odd town you come across becomes more of a highlight than anything else. For instance, including more cities, something we got a hint of in the flashbacks of the first game. The idea of running through destroyed buildings, avoiding a horde, and fighting in tense urban environments is one that I’d love to see.
Finally, I want to see a bit more detail into NERO, the shadowy organisation that formed the main foe in the original Days Gone. This is especially prudent considering the cliffhanger that the first game left us on concerning the state of the people running that organisation. I won’t spoil it, but it could have introduced some big changes in terms of the opponents you faced, while also creating dynamic situations within the world itself.
Obviously, the chance of seeing another Days Gone is (as I said) unlikely due to the relative risk Sony saw in releasing a follow-up. However, stranger things have happened over the years, so I will keep my eyes open to see if anything changes in the coming months. Until then, let us know what you would want to see in the comments!

It's people like you that have basically guaranteed the sequel never happens. It was one of the best games I have played. There were lots more ways to kill the hordes. You obviously just didn't spend the time or effort trying to work it out. It's criminal that this game won't get a sequel and it's mostly down to negative reviews from people who probably never put the time in to play the game properly.
