How to Cheese the Chained Ogre in Outskirts Wall in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

How to Cheese the Chained Ogre in Outskirts Wall in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has been out for a couple of years now, but that doesn’t mean that people aren’t playing the game anymore. My first roadblock for the game was the Chained Ogre back on my first playthrough; however, after many arduous battles, I made it to the end. Although I didn’t cheese the boss myself, here is the best way to take out the Chained Ogre in case you’re feeling frustrated with it.

Step 1: Get the Flame Vent from the Hirata Estate

Enemies with red eyes are weak to fire; that is to say that they get staggered by it and take increased flame damage whenever they are hit with it. So, since the Chained Ogre has red eyes, the best item to use against them is the Flame Vent.

To get the Flame Vent, you’ll need to go to the Hirata Estate. To get there, you’ll need to acquire the Young Lord’s Bell Charm from Inosuke’s Mother. Once you have acquired that, return to the Dilapidated Temple and interact with the Buddha.

Once you’re at the Hirata Estate, you’ll want to go get the Flame Vent. It isn’t very far into the zone; however you’ll have to fight several foes to get to it. The most direct path is the one I take, although you won’t be facing many enemies and XP can be very important to acquire. I choose this path since it is the most straightforward one.

Step 2: Return to the Dilapidated Temple

Now, I recommend you fight through the Hirata Estate before you do this, as this is technically the next area you should be doing. However, if you wish to kill the Chained Ogre ASAP (or have already finished the Hirata Estate), you’ll want to return to the Sculptor and have him give you the Flame Vent prosthetic tool.

Step 3: Fight the Chained Ogre

Finally, you’ll want to fight the Chained Ogre. Teleport back to the Outskirts Wall - Stairway and kill the two foes right in front of it. Once you do, run straight to the Ogre and turn left; continue turning left until you find a speared enemy and then hide in a small cliffside to the right (as seen from 0:17 in the video). You’ll have to fight the speared foe to ensure your safety and survival, though he should be easy to deal with; keep in mind he is easily staggered and only takes about three hits to take down, just fight him within the hiding spot.

Once you have dispatched him and the Chained Ogre is free, make sure that the Chained Ogre gets distracted and walks down the stairs. Once he does this, sneak up behind him and stealth kill him to remove one of his two health bars. (0:42 in the video)

Immediately after he has recovered, use your first stack of Flame Vent (0:46) and hit him five times. Once you do that, run away from him until he does his first attack and repeat the process; it should take about five repetitions of this before you can kill the Chained Ogre, which should cost you 15 spirit emblems (the maximum you can hold at this point in the game).

That’s it for our guide on how to cheese the Chained Ogre! Trust me, no judgement from my end for cheesing it, I know how frustrating it can be. Instead, how about you tell me what you’re doing playing the game so many years after release in the comments below? I’d love to hear about it and ever since the release of ELDEN RING, I’ve been dying to talk more about Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice; I love this game.
