So I Tried…Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never tried before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. This time I went for the PS4 version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

What I thought it was

The latest entry into the oft-insane Metal Gear franchise. A story full of twists, turns and double-talk with a fair bit of sneaking and shooting in a skin-tight suit. Probably a huge nuke-launching mech, too, with Snake exclaiming "Metal Gear!?" at least three times. It's set after Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, which I didn't play...

What it actually is

As I imagined, with less nuke mechs... I know it's a short game, but as I had already managed to do the first objective and was halfway through the second, I'm shocked at how short it appears to be...
So far, no Metal Gear, as this takes place in the 1970s with Solid Snake's dad who apparently owns a Metal Gear of his own, I can see why they didn’t want to complicate things. On the Cuban coast, Snake needs to extract two people he apparently knows, from an American-run facility.

Will I keep playing

It's admittedly been a long time since I played a sneaking game, so my first run has been full of the familiar (!) exclamation ending in an extended firefight and swift death. I'll play again, if only to finish and take a look at the other missions you can unlock. There has to be some trophies in it for me. I’d just like to see the compound in the sun, instead of constant rain...
