Top 10 Indie Games Coming Out in February 2022

Top 10 Indie Games Coming Out in February 2022

Welcome to Top 10 Indie Games Coming Out in February, where my good friend retrogamergirl and I will talk about all of the best indie games releasing this month.

This article will be separate from our monthly Top 10 Games Coming Out in February because we at GameGrin love indie companies and titles. Matching the quality and excitement for AAA titles in contrast to indie ones felt a bit unfair to the indie developers, so we decided to split a unique one for all of the phenomenal indie goodies we couldn't include in the other article.

We will omit any indie title that made it to the other article for blatant reasons. Now, without further ado, let's get right on with the best indie games coming out!

Dungeon Wizards

4th of February

Dungeon Wizards Steam Game

Dungeon Wizards is up first, with a pretty unique style. A roguelite, match-3 title with an unusual matching system in which you will need to connect everything that you can rather than matching three of the same. Does that still count as a match-3? That's up to you to decide!

I was shocked to see the level of depth in the game when I checked the features present, and I'm honestly very excited to see what is going to unfold from this title. I am very eager to get a hold of the game in just a few days!

Mago: The Villain's Burger

7th of February

Mago the Villains Burger

Now, technically the name is "Wizard: The Villain's Burger" if you translate the Spanish text, but try not to judge it too hard based on its name, I promise it looks good. You get to play as a resurrected burger hell-bent on killing its master.

Okay, that may not be true but it would make for an awesome game. Does anyone have a tinyBuild contact?

Jokes aside, Mago: The Villain's Burger has you playing as a sorcerer that was unfortunate enough to eat the villain's burger (thus, the name). Now, the evil villain Gourmet has put the protagonist's girlfriend on the menu, and he must save her. A retro-styled platformer with collectables? I'm in.

Letters - a written adventure

9th of February

Letters a written adventure

I'm going to forgive the wrong dash length in the title.

Letters - a written adventure is a story about growing up and the hardships of teenage years. You play as Sarah, a shy girl from Switzerland, as you go through the letters and messages she’s exchanged with her pen pal while using the words present in them to solve clever word-based puzzles.

As you make decisions, Sarah grows up, changing both her attitude and character sprite. And, if you don't like a particular outcome, you can return and make a different decision. Just perfect for a person that isn't super confident on every decision she ever makes (me!).

Alana here, I totally agree with you on this one. It looks great, and seriously who doesn’t love getting a hand-written note in the mail!

Grapple Dog

10th of February

Grapple Dog

Who doesn't love playing as a dog that can use a grappling hook to platform through areas? I know I do!

Grapple Dog's gameplay looks fast-paced and honestly? I love platforming games. All it took was one look at the trailer, and I was immediately hooked. That said, my boss' preview of it was quite positive, and I'm sure the fact that it's on his wishlist only further backs it up!

KINGDOM of the DEAD

10th of February

KINGDOM of the DEAD

Wait wait wait, Grapple Dog and KINGDOM of the DEAD on the same day? No no no, this is a nightmare, how am I supposed to play both at the same time?!

KINGDOM of the DEAD has a very unique and gorgeous art style that struck my heart the moment I saw it; closing the gates of hell has never looked so stylish and unique. Eight weapons, 22 levels, old-school bosses, cheat codes, and a customisable colour palette comprise the great things that are to come from KINGDOM of the DEAD.

Honourable Mentions

Sometimes, it's way too hard to choose only five games that you love and are excited about. So instead, we have the honourable mentions category to ensure that no game goes without the love it deserves!

Hidden Tavern Top-Down 3D (11th of February) - A beautiful hidden objects game that is set in a 3D tavern. Find 20 different objects, with different ones selected each playthrough to ensure the highest replayability value!

SpellMaster: The Saga (16th of February) - Gorgeous game developed by two people in which you construct a magical academy in an open-world map. Inspired by the Gothic series.

Well, good people, that is it for my half of the article! It has been a great month, so thank you all for having me! I leave you with Alana. See you next time!!

Thanks, Artura! I was looking at all the upcoming indie game releases and I think I have come across a few gems that you should keep an eye on. I used a couple in our other list of Top Games for February 2022, but that’s okay because I have five others to tell you about!

Quest of Graal

1st of February

Quest of Graal DX

Gather some friends and make a mad dash to the end of the stage in this split-screen multiplayer game. The whole goal is to get to the end before your opponents all the while attacking anyone that tries to get in your way and slow you down. This is one crazy high-speed platformer! With 20 stages to choose from, there are lots of races to be had on both land and underwater if you really want to challenge yourselves. Be the first to grab the golden statues and unlock a super attack to use against your frenemies and the level’s enemies.

I am looking forward to all of the crazy battles that Quest Of Graal is going to give me with my friends, but hopefully no one gets too angry when I attack them for getting in my way trying to steal my victory!

*I’m not responsible for any ruined friendships that may occur from playing this game…

“Do you think our friendship can survive the test of Quest of Graal DX?” - Artura

I like to think so, I’m not a sore loser.

Unbound: Worlds Apart

9th of February

Unbound Worlds Apart

I absolutely love games that have a hand-drawn look to them. It feels like extra love and attention went into creating the characters and environments. Unbound: Worlds Apart is beautiful, you play as a mage who has the ability to summon portals that are used to defeat monsters, solve puzzles, and beat platforming challenges. You will have to master all of the mage's powers to save reality from collapsing while you unravel all the mysteries of this world. Unbound was previously released on PC and on the Nintendo Switch but it is now making its way to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 for players to experience and explore this gorgeous game.

I have not had a chance to try this title out, so I’m really excited to jump into this world and prevent the collapse of reality. It’s going to be breathtaking.

Castle Morihasa

10th of February

Castle Morihisa

Castle Morihisa is a roguelike deck building game with super cool looking characters sounded interesting to me. Through constant battles you learn powerful abilities, use the powers of Fallen Heroes and uncover the truth behind the rebellion that is occurring at Castle Morihasa as you act as a spy. There are four unique classes: Samurai, Ninja, Monk, and Onmyoji, each with their own exclusive decks of cards. There are more than 300 cards that you can use to build your own special deck based on your chosen class to use against monsters that come straight out of Japanese folklore.

I am super excited to see all the crazy enemies we will be battling and all the unique cards we can collect. I love playing deck building card games in real life, and I know I will be playing this game multiple times just so I can check out all the different cards for the unique classes. Making the enemies come from traditional stories is a great touch!

“Wow, this sounds absolutely amazing! Can’t wait to try it out come the 10th.” - Artura

KungFu Kickball

10th of February

KungFu Kickball

Normally I’m not the biggest fan of sports games, but mix that with a fighting game and I’m totally up for that! This version of kickball is definitely different from the one I remember playing as a kid. Here, the goal is hitting your opponent's bell with the ball by any method you can: kicks, punches, and headbutts are all allowed.

The developers claim that the game is easy for anyone to play but it is difficult to master soKungFu Kickball will keep you busy for a long time! Plus who doesn’t love competing online cross-platform with their friends and other players with a game teeming with energy and craziness?! Will you be the KungFu Kickball victor?

“Another game on the 10th?! This would make it the fourth that will come out on that day in this list!!” - Artura

Infernax

14th of February

Infernax

This is the story of an honourable knight who is on a journey to save his town. Obviously he is a good guy, he’s taking it upon himself to save his home town! Watching the trailer for Infernax got me excited, it looks just like retro game titles that I love, such as Castlevania and Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins. Well hopefully it’s not as painfully difficult as Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins can be!

With some crazy looking bad guys and tons of blood and gore, this may not be a title for the youngins but I know I would be pretty happy to get this as a gift on Valentine’s Day!

Those were just a few of the awesome looking titles that are coming out in February. There’s always so many great indie games to play, no matter your platform or budget. Were there any titles that you’ve seen that we missed on our list? Are you excited to try any of these out? Just let us know in the comments below! See you next month with another list of games to check out!
