Why I Love Pitting Two AI Against Each Other in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I love Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The idea behind a bunch of franchises crossing over to see whether some of the greatest characters in gaming have what it takes to beat each other up is just entertainment at its finest. However, I'm not good enough at the game to play well enough to fight my friends, so we decided to take up a different hobby: Pitting two to four AI against each other, picking their characters, and betting much like one does with a coral casino bonus.

It's an entertaining new hobby, and one I've grown quite fond of. We don't always bet money; we've gotten to the point of letting the AI do the talking and choose for us by beating each other up. It's fast, it's exciting, and it's fun. We have go-to characters, and in order not to counter each other's picks (though, to be fair I'm not good enough to do that on purpose), we all select them at the same time, and then you can't take it back.

While all of my friends prefer some of the cooler characters, things like Ganondorf, Link, Sephiroth, Ryu, I've always had a fondness for picking all of the silly characters, in particular — Peach. There's something hilarious about the fact that she is constantly useless in several of the games (not including things like Super Mario 3D World) because she gets kidnapped constantly. The premise of her being able to take on some of the best fighters in gaming is hilarious at its very least.

It's not even just Peach either. I really like picking the Minecraft characters (Steve, Alex, Creeper, and Enderman) because they look so ridiculous when they do well against the likes of Kazuya. At this point, I've forsaken the possibility of actually winning any of these, as some of my characters tend to be on the weaker end. Not that the meta applies a whole lot to the AI, not as far as I can tell. But I like being that one friend that selects the odd character, the one that no one likes. I specifically like voting for the unpopular option and going for my weak characters because chances are I won't win, but it's okay because, at the end of the day, it's all about the fun that games can provide. I may not be good enough to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate against my friends without being the first one out, but I can enjoy the game differently. And that's what's charming about videogames — you get to enjoy them however you please.
